The director of the Peace Museum in Saltaire is stepping down.

Joe Brook joined the institution in January this year from National Museums Liverpool.

Previously based in Bradford, the Peace Museum reopened in its new premises in Salt's Mill, Saltaire, on 9 August after a four-year hiatus. It has welcomed more than 17,500 visitors since then.

In a statement, the museum said: "Joe Brook, our museum director, is moving on.

"An expert in museum design, Joe joined the Peace Museum from National Museums Liverpool at a time when our gallery in Salts Mill was still an empty ex-warehouse space. He worked tirelessly with our staff and contractors to transform this into the amazing exhibition that we have today."

The statement added: "The Peace Museum thanks Joe for all that he has achieved. We wish him well in his future career."

In a LinkedIn statement posted on 9 November, Brook said: "The Peace Museum is off to a flying start and the stage is set for a future of success: since opening in August we have welcomed over 17.5k visitors. But sadly my work is now done and its time to move onto my next adventure.

"I want to thank my wonderful, talented, funny and beautiful team for making the project a pleasure, and I will miss them all terribly. I cannot wait to see what the future holds and I wish them all the very best - its a gem of a museum and I am sure it will go far with their talent, drive and passion.

"Even more so this week, the world needs the Peace Museum so please support it, get involved and be a voice for positive change in the world! Make Empathy Great Again!"
