Representatives are a vital link between the MA and its members and are champions of the organisation and its policies and values.

We’re seeking to appoint one new member representative for England: South East. In order to ensure a good geographical spread, we are prioritising applications from the East of England in particular.

Victoria Millar
Senior Curator of History, National Museums NI

Victoria has worked in the museum sector for over 15 years. She joined National Museums NI as a project manager for the Unlocking Our Sound Heritage project in 2018 before becoming a senior curator of history in 2019.

In this role she manages a team of curators responsible for the research, management and development of collections held at the Ulster Folk Museum and the Ulster American Folk Park, supporting collections access and interpretation in the process.

Victoria has previously held positions with the National Museum of the Royal Navy, Down County Museum, the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland, Limavady Borough Council and National Museums Liverpool. She currently sits on the committee of the Rural Museums Network and is a former trustee of the Social History Curators Group.

Tom Hughes
Museums Officer – Access, Dumfries and Galloway Council Museums

Tom started his museum career in 1997 and has worked in a wide range of roles including archaeologist, curator, front-of-house and learning officer. He has worked in independent museums, a national museum and several local authority museums.

Tom moved to Scotland in 2018 and assumed his current post in 2021. He is also a wellbeing champion within his organisation and aims to improve wellbeing in the communities he works with. He achieved his AMA in 2023 and is now a mentor for candidates and keen advocate of the scheme.

In his spare time, he volunteers with small independent museums and heritage groups, sharing living history, traditional music and storytelling.

Steph Burge
Learning Manager, National Museum Cardiff

Steph joined Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales in 2014 as a project coordinator for the Paul Hamlyn Foundation funded Our Museum initiative. This role was focused on creating organisational change to give communities agency in museum decision-making processes. Steph has since gone on to work in Amgueddfa Cymru’s community engagement and learning teams. Steph believes in an activist museum sector and has sought roles that are focused on working with people to create a museum that is representative, welcoming and for all of our communities.

Steph currently manages the learning team at National Museum Cardiff, developing and delivering an exciting learning programme to schools, families and communities inspired by museum collections. She is also strategic lead for early years, family and intergenerational learning across all of Amgueddfa Cymru’s museums.

In 2022 Steph joined the trustee board of Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre and the advisory panel for Head4Arts with a hope to further support the development of cultural democracy in the heritage, arts and cultural sectors in Wales.

Alice Briggs

Alice is currently project managing arts grants for Powys Council SPF fund and a creative agent for Arts Council of Wales Lead Creative Schools Scheme, following a period as head of art at Amgueddfa Cymru.

Alice has over 20 years’ experience working in museums, heritage and the arts as a curator, but also as an arts and health coordinator and practitioner with a particular focus on older people and dementia sufferers.

She has an MA in museum studies from Newcastle University and is a practising artist and educator. She worked for 12 years at Ceredigion Museum as assistant curator, delivering exhibitions, marketing and income streams. Alice’s interests are in co-design, community engagement, arts, wellbeing, social change and representation.

John Hunt
Geologist and physical geographer specialising in climate and environmental change

John, a former physicist, is a geologist and physical geographer specialising in climate and environmental change. He is a trustee of Torfaen Museum Trust and Amgueddfa Cymru, where he also serves as the EDI champion and sits on the research advisory committee and steering group redeveloping Llanberis Slate Museum.

After a stroke at 42 led to early medical retirement, John became a passionate advocate for disability inclusion and accessibility across the museum sector, Welsh society and beyond. He is a director at Diverse Cymru (Adferiad) and the climate charity Size of Wales, and serves on the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority.

A former fellrunner, caver and expedition leader, John runs Wales’ highest live weatherstation and weathercam and brings over 20 years of science outreach experience to museums, promoting geology, placemaking and climate change awareness. Beyond science, he is also a poet, dedicated to bridging the gap between the arts and sciences.

Ogechi Anucha
Programme Assistant, School of Arts and Media, University of Salford

Ogechi has worked in the education sector since graduating from university and is currently programme assistant in the School of Arts and Media at the University of Salford. Alongside her full-time job, she is part of a creative production group called the Tees Valley Young Producers. She works with like-minded young people, planning exhibitions and programming events that engage a diverse range of young people in the museum and heritage sectors.

She has a keen interest in telling untold stories and decolonising museums, believing in the importance of fostering an inclusive atmosphere in the museum sector and the power of transformative educational experiences. She is an individual board member of the Tees Valley Museums Consortium and volunteers with the Whitworth Art Gallery.

Hannah Mather
Cultural Participation and Community Curator, Tees Valley Museums

Hannah is currently working for Tees Valley Museums as a cultural participation and community curator. Her work is focused on access to collections and museum engagement.

Hannah is passionate about cross-sector collaboration, co-curation and networking, she also frequently speaks at museum and university events. She organises Museum Hour, a worldwide monthly online discussion in which people discuss and debate issues relating to the museum sector.

Abibat Bonuola Adedayo
Visual artist and art and heritage volunteer

Abibat is a visual artist specialising in landscape and nature paintings, and currently works as an art and heritage volunteer at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. In this role, she supports the Care, Create, Conserve project, engaging the public with healthcare heritage exhibits and assisting with events and workshops.

Her work as an artist explores the emotional and cultural significance of landscapes, capturing themes of memory, solitude and connection to nature. Abibat is passionate about the intersection of art, heritage and community engagement, believing that museums and cultural spaces play a vital role in storytelling and preserving identity.

Lucy Bickley
Marketing Campaigns Executive, National Trust

Lucy is currently a marketing campaigns executive working for the National Trust, delivering national campaigns focused around membership retention and their Everyone Welcome strategy.

Since starting at the Trust in 2014, Lucy has worked in a range of roles focusing on her passion for engaging diverse audiences, effective storytelling and helping to provide access for all. Her other roles within the Trust include welcoming visitors as a member of front-of-house staff at Wightwick Manor and Gardens, developing the marketing strategy for a recently opened Shugborough Estate as marketing officer, and specialising in digital marketing as the assistant marketing consultant for the National Trust’s Midlands region.

Lucy also has a masters in international heritage management from the University of Birmingham.

Emily Robson
Community Programme Manager, Pallant House Gallery

Emily is community programme manager (job share) at Pallant House Gallery in Chichester. She manages the gallery’s pioneering community programme alongside developing new partnerships with local organisations. She currently works closely with social prescribers, mental health groups and a local charity supporting refugees and asylum seekers.

Emily is passionate about ensuring that museums and galleries are inclusive spaces and accessible for all, and is a committed advocate for the benefits of creative health and its impact on wellbeing. She has an MA in museum studies from University of Leicester and recently completed her AMA.

Anna Stein
Collections Officer, Hockey Museum

With over 10 years of experience in museums and heritage, Anna is currently the collections officer at the Hockey Museum. Originally trained as an archaeologist, she worked in various museum roles before discovering her passion for collections management and raising awareness of hidden histories within collections.

Anna holds a doctorate in cultural heritage which provided her with the opportunity to work with Unesco and gain experience of the global museum sector. Passionate about continuous learning, she enjoys exploring different cultures, languages and arts. In her free time, she loves visiting museums, cultural centres, and historical sites, as well as sampling traditional cuisines from around the world.

Yağmur Çekiç
Culture, media and creative industries student, King’s College London

Yağmur Çekiç is a culture, media and creative industries student at King’s College London with experience across cultural and creative institutions. With expertise in arts management, cultural strategy and archival research, she is committed to fostering cross-cultural understanding.

She is currently a Windrush curator at the Museum of Cambridge, where she co-curates exhibitions exploring the legacies of Windrush and preserving oral histories. Her experience includes supporting visitor engagement, conservation training and volunteering at contemporary art fairs and festivals across London.

Her Turkish heritage informs her perspective on the intersections of history, art and identity. She is particularly interested in how museums shape cultural memory by preserving diverse narratives and fostering meaningful engagement through curation, interpretation and education.

Rachel Teskey
Director, Barker Langham

Rachel is a director at Barker Langham, a global cultural practice. She leads the company’s interpretive, curatorial and research portfolio – working in partnership with client teams in museums, government and cultural organisations in the UK and internationally to deliver meaningful visitor experiences.

She is a mentor for the Museums Association’s Mentoring for All programme and an advisory board member for the Sensational Museum. Rachel is an active researcher in the field of museum studies and completed her PhD on collaborative writing in museums with the University of Leicester in 2023. Through all her work, she seeks to create connections across and beyond the sector and to support the next generation of cultural practitioners.

Julie Taylor Kent
Museum Development Officer, South West Museum Development

Julie is museum development officer for the west of England at Museum Development South West delivering support to more than 40 museums in the region, and many more across forums, peer networks and collaborations.

Her career has spanned freelance illustration, teaching art and art history within adult education and university settings, visitor experience and operations within museums, and museum sector support. Stand-out experiences include being a project team member for the Front-of-House Charter for Change and working on the Colston statue consultation display and permanent exhibition at M Shed.

Julie has previously worked at the University of the West of England, Bristol Libraries Service, Royal West of England Academy and Bristol Museums, Galleries & Archives. Her experience has enabled her to tap into cross-sector connections, with a core tenet being the power of museum collections, the arts, and creativity to bring people together to explore contemporary issues and create opportunities for shared social experiences and memory-making.
