Why did you apply to the Members Support Fund?

I applied to the Members Support Fund in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic while I was on furlough. As an AMA candidate, I applied to the fund to support ongoing professional development at a time when finances were tight and paying fees for development opportunities wouldn’t have been possible by myself.

How did you spend the money?

As part of my AMA it was suggested that taking an external project management course would be beneficial to advance in my role. The Members Support Fund covered 50% of my fees to qualify as a Prince2 Agile Practitioner in project management. This meant that I took both the Prince2 Agile Foundation and Practitioner exams.

What did you learn?

I learned a lot for my new qualification, mainly a proven and universal language of project management and how to structure a project ‘from the ground up’. I chose to focus on the Agile way of working as in my organisation we tend to work dynamically, and I knew a preference towards visual and verbal communication as well as an emphasis on evaluating projects as they go would work for and get buy-in from my colleagues. 

How have you applied your learning?

I have used the tools and techniques learned in my qualification to project manage a collections store move. Due to external circumstances this had to be done quickly and efficiently with a new team of staff. By applying the Prince2 Agile framework to our project plan we were able to relocate our collections storage facility on time, in budget and with relatively little complication.
