Take our apprenticeships survey
7-13 February 2022 was National Apprenticeship Week 2022 and we’re proud to celebrate apprenticeships in museums and heritage organisations.
Apprenticeships are a way of unlocking the potential of our society, workforce and organisations, attracting diverse applicants and investing in their professional development.
We need your help to create a useful resource that captures the apprenticeship activity in our sector in one place, easily accessible to all.
Members of the Museums Trainers Network (MTN) have worked together to develop a questionnaire for individual organisations to complete to identify which UK museums, galleries and heritage sites host apprenticeships.
The data will be posted on an Apprenticeship Map (where permission to do so is granted) so those looking to embark on an apprenticeship in the sector will be able see what opportunities may be available to them.
In addition to supporting those wishing to join the sector, the data will be circulated to enable museums, galleries and other heritage and arts organisations to see where apprenticeships are hosted, supporting collaboration, learning and future development of apprenticeship opportunities.
For more information relating to the questionnaire in the first instance, please contact Lyndsey Douglas at the V&A via l.douglas@vam.ac.uk.
The questionnaire takes 10 minutes to complete and the deadline for completion is 18 March 2022.
A dedicated Apprenticeship Survey for Scotland will be launched during Scottish Apprenticeships Week 7-13 March 2022.

“The Museums Association is committed to inclusion. Apprenticeships provide a way for individuals who may not have had the opportunity to go to university or to volunteer to access training and support in several museum disciplines. We want to share information about where you can do an apprenticeship, and what apprenticeships are available, to highlight this exciting route into the sector.”
Tamsin Russell
“We are developing our Apprenticeships programmes across the V&A. Apprenticeships remove barriers, such as the need for pre-existing qualifications, which can prevent talented people from joining the cultural sector. What excites me about this survey is the opportunity to facilitate collaboration across the sector to deliver Apprenticeship programmes of interest, therefore, increasing the number of Apprenticeships on offer and developing pathways into the sector”
Lyndsey Douglas
“It is really exciting to be part of the project team that has enabled this work to help drive apprenticeship awareness and activity in the sector.”
Roshni Hirani
“I am delighted to be working with a team of colleagues whose enthusiasm and energy to promote apprenticeship awareness in the sector is inspiring but most predominately identifying opportunities to engage talented people who would not normally have the qualifications to join our sector.”
