Lindsey Holmes AMA
Freelance Costume Designer for the museum sector
I’m a costume designer who specialises in making items for museums and heritage sites.
Before I started my AMA I had worked in a number of different museum roles.
I knew the museum sector was for me, but I just wasn’t sure how it fitted with my love for the history of costume and dress.
Working to a structured development plan and taking the time to reflect on different activities really helped me work out what I wanted to do.
Networking with museum professionals from all over the world helped me see there was a gap in the market for a business like mine.
My final AMA project gave me a taste of what it would be like to run my own business in this field.
I would recommend the AMA to anyone looking to work in museums. I found that it was flexible enough to suit a candidate working in a less traditional role.
Without the AMA and the support of my mentor I’m not sure I would have had the confidence to strike out on my own, three years later I’m so pleased I did and set up Costumier Saurus.
I really do love my job.
