Crowdfunding campaigns are a challenging but potentially rewarding aspect of digital fundraising, and many museums are looking at how harnessing donations from people online can be used to fund projects.

Sharing good and new practice is an important part of Museums Journal, and we are looking to publish case studies from museums, galleries and other heritage bodies who have undertaken crowdfunding campaigns, particularly in the past year during the Covid pandemic.

This might include campaigns that have been successful as well as unsuccessful, with a focus on passing on lessons and advice to other organisations.

Case studies should be about 600 words long and seek to address the following:

  • Details of how you developed your crowdfunding campaign, including timeframes, rewards, platform and communications.
  • The challenges as well as any positive outcomes.
  • What you would do differently if you were to repeat the campaign.
  • Advice you would pass on to other museums looking to develop crowdfunding campaigns.
  • Your future plans.

Please include your name, job title and organisation (if applicable) in your case study and any additional information such as budgets.

Please email your case study along with high-res illustrative photographs to rebecca.atkinson@museumsassociation.org

We will publish case studies in Museums Journal online and in print copies of the magazine. Submissions remain open until further notice – please contact Rebecca Atkinson if you have any questions.
